I did a screen dump of an aerial photo from Google maps and saved it out to a jpg file. When I insert the file in EnviroInsite the map scale and location are not correct. How do I georeference the map?
The process is to import the image file and then search the image for prominent landmarks with known coordinates. This may be an intersection, building, or the locations of a well or wells with known coordinates. Then you can perform the georeferencing operation by editing the image object and selecting the georeference feature. Then click two points on the image and entering the points’ world coordinates.
Here are the instructions for inserting and then georeferencing a map image.
Insert – Image
Select your image file (may be jpg, png, tif, or bmp) and
Click the Open button
Double-click on the image to open the image property dialog box
Click on the Georeference button (at the bottom-left)
Use the mouse and click on two points (make sure that you know the world-coordinates of these points)
Enter the coordinates of the points in the New Coordinates section of the dialog box
Click the OK button - (This will return you to the image properties dialog box.)
Click OK
You should now see the image in the correct location and scale. If it doesn't look correct then you may have typed the coordinates incorrectly or enter them in the wrong order. Try it again.
