Stream Effects on Potentiometric Map

Quick question on streams in EI.

At one site, we have a stream  near our monitoring wells. The stream is shown on the figure via a shapefile, however we do not have elevation data associated with the stream. Is there a way to have the EI software recognize that the stream is a lower elevation than the surrounding wells so the groundwater contours are more accurate? A colleague mentioned GIS has a way of handling this issue and I was hoping EI might as well.

Thanks for the help,

(1) If you are using EnviroInsite 2014 (release 9.1.0.44 or greater) then you can create virtual data points from the contour dialog. To do so, start your contour object and go to the Virtual Points tab. Click on the Add Point button and click on a point along the river. The dialog will return and you should enter the water level of the river in the z column. Keep doing so until you have enough points along the length of the river to force the contour line to follow the river. You can also type in the point locations and values if you like. These virtual data points will be used in generation of the contour object.

(2) If you are using an older version of EnviroInsite then you should add records to the Wells, Screens, and Observations tab that correspond to the water levels along the stream.
