How does EI handle non-detects?

How does EI handle a non detect value…should we be putting a number in the Value column (we've been leaving it blank) corresponding to detection limit or is there a function in EI that automatically handles this?

 Thanks

It’s advisable to put a number in the Value field.  A number of the functions need the Value field to be populated, such as plotting pie charts, radial diagrams, stiff diagrams, contours, etc.  Standards are also compared against whatever number you put in the Values column so you need to think about that as well if you’re going to be generating a plot where standards are going to be flagged.  Mostly people either put a zero in the value field or some fraction of the detection limit.  It all depends on your objectives.

You may want to think about populating the Formatted Value field if there is some particular way in which you want the values to be presented in either the data tables or posted value plots.  The Formatted Value field is used in the data tables if it happens to be populated.  There happens to be a note about at our the EnviroInsite LinkedIn group about how EnviroInsite handles non-detects in data tables.  You might want to read it.  Here’s the link:  http://www.linkedin.com/groups/How-does-EI-handle-nondetects-3911237.S.258263832?trk=groups_search_item_list-0-b-ttl&goback=%2Egna_3911237.
