Understandably, there is still some confusion about EQuIS Pro and the EnviroInsite 2012 Service Pack that was released in July 2012. This may change, but as of today:
The EI 2012 Service Pack will open files created by EQuIS Pro, but the EQuIS Pro data export report is unable to “communicate” with the Service Pack release so as to tell it to start the program and open the files. EarthSoft has been aware of this problem since June and they have told me that they will release a version that will communicate with the EI2012 Service Pack.
The EI2012 Service Pack is a newer version than the one that you have installed. The EI 2012 Service Pack is backwards compatible and will open any documents that are generated by the version that is installed on your computer.
EI2012 8.2.0.26 will not open files created by the EI2012 Service Pack because it is a prior release and there is no “forward compatibility” with newer versions.
If your co-workers are using the EI2012 Service Pack they will be able to open files that you create, but you will not be able to open the files that they create because they are using a newer version of the program.
One solution would be for you to have both the EI2012 and EI2012 Service Pack installed simultaneously. Then you could open your co-workers files and still run EQuIS and have EQuIS generate files for EnviroInsite. You could if you like then close EI2012 and reopen the same ei.mdb file using the EI2012 Service Pack.
