Notes on Upgrading to EnviroInsite 2012

EnviroInsite 2012 promises to be a significant new release, however there are some things that you need to be aware of to make a smoot transition from EnviroInsite 7 to EnviroInsite 2012. As always, the HydroAnalysis technical support team stands ready to assist you. Be sure to avail yourself of our help should you run into any problems.

Database Modifications
EnviroInsite 2012 database files have additional fields that were not found in EnviroInsite 7. EnviroInsite 7 database files can be updated by making the following changes:

(1) Add a Group field or column to the Screens table. This is a text field and must be populated.
(2) Add a Fraction field or column to the Constituents and Observations tables. This is a text field and must be populated.
(3) Add a Standard Name field or column to the Constituents table. This is a text field. It does not need to be populated.

If you don't know what value to put in the Group and Fraction field then just put a single hyphen for now. At various places with EnviroInsite, the hyphen is interpreted in a special manner and for example not displayed in legends. The hyphen is also a default value for the fraction field and may avoid some of the transitional problems of loading xml documents that have been created using EnviroInsite7.

Loading EnviroInsite7 XML Documents
Because of the addition of the Fraction field, you may find that when you load your EnviroInsite 7 generated files that some plots may not be generated. In that event, after opening the file in EnviroInsite, you should edit the object and then look for constituent selections with the Fraction selection unspecified. Deselect these constituents and then reselect the same one, but with the Fraction value specified. Then hit OK to redraw the segment. If you enter a hyphen in the fraction fields of your updated database then you have a better chance of this problem being avoided.

Loading VIZ Files
The viz files are no longer supported in EnviroInsite 2012. Make sure to save out xml document files that you want to save from EnviroInsite7 prior to upgrading to EnviroInsite 2012. You can do this, open the viz file in EnviroInsite7. Then select File -> Save As and enter a file name with an xml extension. This xml file will be readable by EnviroInsite 2012.
