Is there a good (read: so simple even a dumb geologist can do it) way to export layer information to a node-based coordinate (x,y,z) file for import into a numerical model (e.g., MODFLOW)?
Exporting layer info is easy - even for a geologist. Here are instructions you can use with the tutorial data files.
(1) Start EI (2) File -> Open Database (3) Select Documents\Tutorial\site1.xls (4) OK (5) Stratigraphy -> Contour (6) Select Top from the dropdown box (we’ll be plotting the top of Aquifer 1) (7) Go to the Intervals tab (8) Set Intervals -> Set Default (9) Go to the Grid tab. (This tells you the limits of the grid and the spacing. You can set the number of cells to whatever you like or leave it as it is.) (10) OK (11) Right-Click on Contour Strat 1 in the plot control tree (12) Select Export (13) Enter a file name. I used upper_aq1.txt (14) Click on Save button
Open Windows Explorer and browse to the folder where you saved the file. Double-click on the file to open it in Notepad. You’ll see that the beginning of the file contains the properties used in creating the contour object. Then you’ll see the contoured data points. That’s the contact elevations from the data file. Scroll down a little more and you’ll come to the Interpolated Grid Points. These are the grid points with the interpolated elevation.
